General Instructions for Ohio Star Blocks:
The following technique was adapted with permission from Jackie Robinson's book Favorites published by Animas Quilts Publishing (PO Box 693, Durango, CO 81302).

Construction of star point units:
  1. On the wrong side of each of the light colored background 4-1/4" squares, draw a diagonal line exactly from one corner to the opposite corner (Figure 1). Place one light print square to one dark print square, right sides together. Sew a seam 1/4" away from the drawn line on each side of the line (Figure 2). Cut on the drawn line and press seams toward darker piece.
  2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the triangle unit perpendicular to the seam. Place two triangle units right sides together, interlocking the seams and oriented so that opposite colors are facing each other (dark blue to light tan). Stitch a seam 1/4" from the drawn line on each side of the line (Figure 3). Cut on the drawn line and press seam to one side. You have completed 2 star point units. You need 4 units for each block. Complete the remaining star point units using the 4-1/4" squares of lights and blues.
  3. Join the units of the star block together as you would a 9-patch block, joining the 3 blocks that make each row. Then join the first row to the second row, and then that unit to the third row (Figure 4).
