Over thirty years ago Eleanor Burns introduced her first “Quilt in a Day” book, beginning a quilt making revolution. She also introduced an incredibly rapid stitching system, applying the method of assembly line sewing to piecework. Her concise, step-by-step directions were easy to grasp, allowing anyone to be successful at making a quilt. Today, as she continues to passionately devote herself to motivating thousands of want-to be quilters with needed self-confidence, her name and techniques have become synonymous with quiltmaking on her website, www.quiltinaday.com. Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry
Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry, is a professional quilt artist. She makes original fine art for the walls of homes and businesses from fabric that is stitched together and quilted. Most of her work is made from 100% cotton fabric, which is dyed and painted, then pieced, appliquéd, embroidered, and quilted on her sewing machine. Nancy is the designer, author and publisher of over forty project books and sixty quilt/craft patterns since she started her company, Art to Heart, in 1992. Nancy’s designs are sold internationally and cater to quilters who want appealing projects they can whip up in a hurry. Her projects include piecing, fusible appliqué and simple embroidery. Cheryl started designing patterns for dolls in 1992 and sold them through craft fairs and local quilt shops. In 1993, Cheryl attended her first International Quilt Market & Festival in Houston, Texas. She added quilted wall hanging patterns in 1994 and started designing craft books for Darrow Production Company that same year. She has been designing prints and patterns for Benartex for years. Ann is an award winning fiber artist who has been professionally designing and creating quilts and fabric pieces for over twenty years. Ann has also extensively taught quilt design and techniques. In 2005, she founded Grizzly Gulch Gallery, a quilt pattern design company currently featuring over 60 creative and unusual quilt patterns. Her quilt patterns have been shown in all the mer catalogs aajor quilt mail ords well as in national and international quilt magazines and are distributed to retail quilt stores nationwide. Paula tries to free herself from a conventional sense of fabric orderliness, seeking a random quality in order to imitate the endless possibilities synonymous with kaleidoscopes. She make quilts on the same block in the Bronx where she grew up. Being a New Yorker wrapped up in the fabric of city life creates an inherent paradox contrasting the traditional image of quiltmaking. Paula’s quilts have achieved international recognition for the innovative and complex designs inspired by the bilateral symmetry of kaleidoscopic images. Matthew holds Master degrees in both anthropology and architecture. He is a licensed Architect in Arizona. Matthew joined The Whimsical Workshop with his wife and creative partner Heidi Pridemore full-time in 2010. He enjoys the design process, whether it is a new building, art piece or quilt design. An international teacher and lecturer since 1989, Jackie has authored 12 quilting books is is a National Artisan for Bernina. She is best known for her geometric patterns, creating new and expanded designs from traditional shapes. Jackie has made in excess of 400 quilts. Jackie opened her first quilt shop in a St. Louis suburb in 1982. In ’88, they sold it to make a choice move to Durango where they opened Animas Quilts. Jackie loves designing fabrics with Benartex. Anyway you want to! Many people say “ben ART ex,” because our fabrics remind them of works of art. Others say “ben ar TEX”, since tex stands for textiles. We say “BEN ar tex”, because it was named after Mr. Benardete (Mr. “B”), and we place the emphasis on the first syllable.
